Endodontia and its Role in Dental Medicine
In modern dentistry, specialists are diverse. Standard problems, such as caries, are treated by a dentist therapist. The incorrect position of the teeth is corrected by the orthodontist. The periodontist takes care of the condition of the tissues surrounding the teeth and teeth. The dentist-surgeon removes the untreated teeth. But who is such an endodontist? It is a doctor specializing exclusively in the treatment of the roots of the teeth. Unlike the general dentist, the endodontist has a deep knowledge of techniques and equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of problems of the teeth canals.
What is endodontia?
The term “endodontis” comes from the Greek words “endo” (inside) and “odontos” (tooth). The endodontist is concerned with the inner part of the teeth. The main purpose of endodontic treatment is to preserve the teeth. Instead of removing sick or damaged teeth, the endodontist eliminates infection, removes damaged tissue, and protects the inner part of the teeth from further damage. One of the well-known procedures in this area is root canal treatment.
Before the endodontic treatment procedure, the doctor uses local anesthesia, and removes the damaged tissue and pulp from the teeth. Then a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the pulp chamber and root canals is performed. After the complete removal of infection and drying of the inner part of the teeth, the root canals are filled with a special material called Gutta-percha. Then the pulp cavity is punctured. Depending on the external appearance of the teeth, the patient may need to install a crown or other restorative procedures.
When to visit an endodontist?
The patient is referred to an endodontist when a diseased tooth or injury can cause problems with the roots or pulp. The endodontist specializes in the treatment of root canals, with deep knowledge and experience in the use of cutting-edge technologies.
Although proper oral hygiene involves cleaning your teeth with specialized pastes and regular care, certain dental problems require the attention of professionals. Contact an endodontist if you require specialized treatment to make your smile healthy and beautiful.
