Tooth Extraction

Tooth Extraction in Prague: When It’s Truly Necessary and How the Procedure Works

We consider tooth extraction to be the last resort — performed only when the tooth can no longer be safely restored. The procedure is carried out by an experienced oral surgeon under local anesthesia. Before any extraction, we perform the necessary diagnostics and review your medical history, medications, and possible allergies.

When Tooth Extraction May Be Necessary

  • Wisdom teeth: when “eights” grow incorrectly, cause pain, inflammation, or push against neighboring teeth.
  • Severe tooth damage: deep decay, cracks, or a fractured root — situations where reconstruction is no longer possible.
  • Periodontitis: significant mobility due to the loss of bone support.
  • Trauma: injury to the tooth or jaw requiring surgical intervention.
  • Orthodontic reasons: lack of space in the arch before braces or aligner treatment.

When the Procedure May Be Postponed (assessed individually)

  • acute infection or serious systemic illness,
  • intolerance to local anesthetics,
  • pregnancy — we choose gentle methods and appropriate timing.

How the Extraction Is Performed

  1. Examination and imaging (X-ray or CBCT if needed), explanation of the treatment plan, risks, and alternatives.
  2. Anesthesia: effective local numbing for maximum comfort.
  3. Tooth removal: gentle extraction of the tooth or root; sutures, hemostatic sponge, or socket stabilization may be used if necessary.
  4. Aftercare instructions: detailed home care and planning of the next steps (including implant or prosthetic options).

Complex Tooth Extraction

This approach is indicated for atypical root shapes, impacted wisdom teeth, specific bone anatomy, or proximity to nerve structures. To minimize trauma and speed up healing, we use microsurgical instruments, laser technology, and ultrasonic (piezo) surgery.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Cooling during the first hours to reduce swelling.
  • Diet: soft, cooler foods; avoid hot or hard foods.
  • Oral hygiene: gentle brushing from the next day; saline rinses as recommended; clean the area around the wound carefully.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol during healing.
  • Check-ups: attend your scheduled follow-ups; if pain or bleeding worsens, contact us immediately.

Root Removal (Atraumatic Extraction)

When the crown is destroyed, the root is fractured, or chronic inflammation is present at the apex, we choose the most conservative technique based on imaging. Options include root-end resection or atraumatic removal with preservation of bone volume for a future implant.

Our goal is to preserve as much natural tissue as possible and ensure safe, predictable healing with a clear plan for restoring your smile.
